Tottenham Hotspur fans will rejoice to hear about a possible contract extension of their star winger, Son Heung-Min especially after the performance he put in last night against Huddersfield Town. The South Korean international dazzled the crowd with his skill and pace and scored both the goals in the 2-0 showing against Huddersfield Town at Wembley.
Son’s contract is set to run until the summer of 2020 but the Spurs want to reward him for his laudable service over the course of the season.
The 25-year-old is in sublime form having scored the ball on 15 occasions and furthered 9 assists in 41 games across all competitions.
He is Mauricio Pochettino’s leading choice to appear in the left wing role alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli. Both Eriksen and Son are expected to get a major wage hike from their current £70,000-a-week and £60,000-a-week contracts.
Son arrived in North London in the summer of 2015 from Bundesliga outfit, Bayer Leverkusen. He became the most expensive Asian player in the history of the game after being signed on a £18m(€30m) transfer fee. The record was previously held by Hidetoshi Nakata who had moved to AS Roma for €25m.
Son has been one of the leading figures in the Tottenham lineup to establish the team as able title challengers in recent times. He took a bit of time to adjust to the pace of the English game often times fielded as a backup option. He even had asked Mauricio Pochettino to leave the club due to a lack of first-team action but the Argentine manager gave him the chance to prove himself and Son took on the challenge head-on.
He has surpassed 120 total appearances for the Wembley-based club and has recorded 44 goals and 24 assists to his name. The Chuncheon-born winger is one of the best, if not the best player of the South Korea national team and has been capped an impressive 61 times already. He is expected to take the stage in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and make a statement for the Asian contingency.
Tottenham’s campaign has seen them evolve to a more able competitor in both domestic and European stage.
They were impressive enough to come back from a 2-0 deficit against Juventus in the 1st Leg of the Round of 16 Champions League fixture. Pochettino is ready to make a statement in the European competition and is favoured to finish the season in the top-4 of the points table. Tying down Son’s services will be the right move towards an illustrious future.
