Brendan Rodgers is enjoying a successful time at Celtic as he is on the verge of lifting yet another trophy in his short span at Glasgow. He has got the best out of the squad at his disposal and has also made a couple of decent additions, that have only improved the chances of the side at the highest level.
There are a number of stars from the club, who are on loan at various clubs in the country and the with the season coming to its business end, it is important for the Scottish giants to start thinking about the future of such players. One such player, who will have to decide his future this summer is young Ryan Christie.
The Scottish U21 international came up the ranks at Inverness and only joined Celtic back in 2015. He joined Aberdeen on loan in 2017, after just 10 senior appearances for Celtic and has turned into an important part of the squad under Derek Mc Innes.
The Dons wanted to sign him up on a permanent basis even at the start of the season but Rodgers was adamant that he has a future at Celtic. However, Aberdeen are now convinced that he is a star in the making and want to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
Speaking to the media recently, the Aberdeen boss said that he will entertain the opportunity of keeping Christie at the club on a permanent basis. However, he did reveal that the decision will completely depend on the player and his parent club. So does he have a future at Celtic or should they let him join Aberdeen on a permanent basis?
Having made 21 Premiership starts in Scotland, the 23-year old has picked up three goals and has been in decent form for most of the season. He has been used in a no.10 role in a 4-2-3-1 system at Pittodrie Stadium and though has shown some weaknesses, has proven his quality time and again.
The Celts have used Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic in this role this season but need players who can walk into the first team when called upon. Christie has all the makings of turning into a first team star at Celtic Park but it will be interesting to see if Rodgers believes the same.
The former Liverpool manager needs certain kind of players for his system to work and though Christie’s style of play fits in well, it is the manager who will have the final say in this move. But do you think he should be given a chance at Celtic before being shipped off?
