In his time at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has made close to 10 signings and not one of those can be branded a flop. So it shows that the German has a keen eye for talent, and that is now exciting many Liverpool fans, who are entertained to new names linked with the club recently.
While the Reds are in search of ready-made stars, they are also looking at players who can act as under-studies and help when needed and one name they are still interested in is Lyon starlet Houssem Aouar.
A product of the academy at Lyon, the 19-year old was tracked by Liverpool even before he broke into the first team at Groupama Stadium but have not been able to lure him out of his hometown. It is reported that he has a huge affinity to his family, that might keep him at the club for years to come but it is now understood that the likes of Barcelona are also interested in his services, an interest that cannot be easily refuted.
At just 19, Aouar has already established himself as an important part of the squad under Bruno Genesio and is now a first-team star regularly, thanks to the injury to Nabil Fekir. He has four goals and two assists in 22 Ligue 1 appearances this season and has time and again proven that he is ready for the challenges at the highest level.
A versatile midfielder, who can also play on the wing, Aouar is a gifted footballer with maturity and confidence unheard of, for a player his age. He scored on his full senior debut for Les Gones and is regarded as one of the brightest products coming out of an academy, that has produced some exciting stars in Europe recently.
He is adept at playing in a midfield role, where he can control the game and have an impact on the attacking numbers of his side. He has also made a couple of appearances for the French U21 national side and is not too far away from a call-up to the senior side. He is right up there with the best youngsters on display in Europe and is now a serious transfer target for the Red of Merseyside.
Klopp is building a squad that can compete with the best in Europe but has a couple of positions that he needs to address. His midfield is quite weak and he will have to build it from scratch. Liverpool are expected to spend on more than one midfielder in the summer, especially if they lose Emre Can to Juventus and Aouar could be a decent bet.
He may not be ready for the first-team action but has all the facets that can make him a hit in England and in Klopp’s system. He will not be easy to lure out of France but do you think Liverpool should go all in for the Lyon starlet?
