Reports claim that Jack Wilshere and Arsenal have not met eye to eye concerning the terms of the contract extension provided to him. The 26-year-old is expected to take a pay-cut of £30,000 from his new contract and that is not ideal for a long-serving first-team player. Arsene Wenger and the bosses at Emirates are still negotiating a deal and if an agreement is not met by the end of the season, the Gunners will see their wonderboy make the shock move to any of the interested parties.
The Gunners boss is hopeful of the deal getting done as he said, “I want Jack to sign very quickly and I am happy to find the pen for him. Talks are progressing but the decision belongs to him and we have to respect that. Our desire has been clearly expressed and numbered and, after that, the player has to find satisfaction as well.”
Not a single one of the Arsenal faithful would want to see Wilshere leave the club especially after witnessing his brilliance over the course of the season. Coming back from injury is always met with a tough transitional period and yet Wilshere has taken it upon himself to prove his worth. And he has succeeded remarkably. He captained the team through a first spot finish in the Europa League group stages in the earlier stages of the season.
He currently holds the first-team spot alongside Granit Xhaka in the holding midfield role ahead of an injury-riddled Aaron Ramsey, even though he has been shifted around in a more offensive position in recent times.
He has been one of the standout performers on the pitch even though Arsenal have failed to put a run of wins under their belt. The club went through a troublesome period over the transfer saga of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil since the beginning of the season and while his teammates were suffering from low morale, Wilshere picked up the slack from the heart of the park and delivered time and time again. He has already racked up 5 assists and 2 goals.
Arsenal have already handed out massive contracts to Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Wilshere would expect to receive the same amount of generosity. It seems like his injury history is one of Arsenal’s biggest concerns even though the player has proven his fitness over the season.
