Reports in the media are confirming that Willian is a part of a six-man shortlist made by Manchester United bosses for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Brazilian had a slow start to the new season and was drifting in and out of the Chelsea side in the early part of the season.
He, however, has found his feet in the last couple of months and has become Chelsea’s star performer. Indeed his performances against Barcelona and Manchester United drew praise from pundits all around the world.
The Brazilian came to Chelsea back in the summer of 2013 when Jose Mourinho snatched him from the jaws of Tottenham Hotspur. In his four and a half year stay at the club, the Brazilian has shown the fans his best and his worst. On days when Willian plays, he is simply unstoppable. He was Chelsea’s brightest spark in their disappointing season.
However, the Brazilian is currently unhappy at Stamford Bridge at having to fiddle in and out of the first team leading to reports that he could be on his way to Manchester United to reunite with his former boss Jose Mourinho.
If he were to move to Manchester United, he would certainly add way more quality to the already inflated Manchester United attack. Mourinho’s men signed Alexis Sanchez last month and have enough attackers to help them cope without adding Willian. The Red Devils’ boss has certainly ruled out any further signings in the final third.
“That’s the point, that’s the objective. The objective is now that we have only one No 9 – apart from Zlatan and let’s forget about Zlatan for the moment – we have only one No 9 and by having one No 9, now we have more No 9s.”
“We have Alexis, Lukaku, Martial, Rashford,” the United manager explained. “Rashford can play on the left and the right, Alexis is exactly the same. All of them apart from Lukaku can play from behind as the second striker.
“That’s why I say that it’s bad for you because you like to have things to write and speculate, especially in the summer, but I don’t want attacking players so don’t speak about attacking players that are coming here because nobody is coming here.”
“We have Mata, Lukaku, Rashford, Martial, Alexis, I don’t want attacking players,” he insisted. “Speculation in the summer you have to go to other areas, attacking players I am really happy.
This would mean that any rumour of Willian moving to Manchester United should be treated with casual care for now and certainly not taken seriously as such a move is unlikely to take place in the near future.
