After an impressive summer transfer window, Everton failed to kick off their campaign until they replaced Ronald Koeman with Sam Allardyce, halfway through the season. They have little chance of qualifying for Europe and the English manager may not be able to keep his job, even if the Toffees end the season on a high.
They are currently 11 points off the sixth place in the league table and an exclusive from the Daily Star now claims that the former English coach is now in borrowed time at Goodison Park. It is revealed that owner Farhad Moshiri is already in search of top class managers who can establish the club as European giants in the near future.
The likes of Diego Simeone and Luis Enrique are linked with the Everton job but here are three likely candidates who could take charge of the club come the start of the next season:
Marco Silva:
A target for West Brom as well, the Portuguese boss, who made a name for himself with Hull City, was relieved of his duties at Watford just last month. He won just 30% of his matches at Vicarage Road and failed to replicate his at Olympiacos. He is currently without a club and is still highly regarded among the European circuit and at just 40, is a manager who can start a legacy at Goodison Park.
Sean Dyche (Burnley):
A target for Everton even when they sacked Koeman, Dyche is easily one of the most wanted managers in English football at the moment. Having helped the Clarets to the top flight from the Championship and to their best ever finish in the Premier League, Dyche has changed the face of the club in his 6+ years at Turf Moor and is wanted by the likes of Arsenal. He has a brand of old-school football, that is winning games for his side and his recruitment model shows that he can be productive with a limited budget. So Moshiri should give him a shot for the Everton job.
Paulo Fonseca (Shakhtar Donetsk):
One of the favourites to land the Arsenal job next season, the Mozambique born manager was pretty close to the Everton job before Allardyce was appointed. The Turkish outfit were reluctant to let their manager leave mid-way through the season and Everton are expected to go back for him at the end of the campaign. At just 44, he is making headlines with the work he has done at Metalist Stadium and the Toffees should move fast if they are to lure him to Merseyside.
