In his time at Tottenham Hotspur, Mauricio Pochettino has had a fruitful time with youngsters that he has recruited from the Championship and other clubs around the world. So it does not come as a surprise that most of the exciting stars in the domestic circuit in England, are constantly linked with a move to the club recently.
The likes of Ryan Sessegnon and Ezri Konsa are examples of budding stars Pochettino is interested in bringing to Wembley but one player he is now extensively linked with is Sheffield Wednesday star Sean Clare.
A part of the Wednesday side that won the Professional Development League title last season, the 21-year old is one of the most exciting talents on show in the Championship at the moment. He is out of a contract at the end of the season and though the Owls are desperate to extend his stay, he is expected to be a free agent this summer.
So it does not come as a surprise that he is attracting interests from top clubs in the country. The likes of Everton, Southampton and Leicester City are also interested in his signature, along with Sunderland and Norwich City. But should Spurs look to sign him?
He will not cost more than a tribunal fee that will be set later in the season but Pochettino is reportedly an admirer of the youngster and is convinced that he is the right man for his side.
Standing at 6’ 3”, Clare is a versatile midfielder, who loves to play in the no.10 role, just behind the striker. He has nimble feet and is a hard man to mark. He can dribble away from danger with ease and is always on the lookout for goal scoring opportunities, which allows him to set up teammates on goal and create chances on a consistent basis.
He has already played for clubs like Bury and Accrington Stanley and has enough experience to have an impact in the top flight. He has 21 League One appearances for Gillingham, where he is currently on loan but made his first Championship star earlier this year in the game against Derby County.
He is a confident young player, who has potential to turn into a superstar and Pochettino is one of the best coaches that he can work with. He may not walk into the first team but will certainly get his chances to prove himself and if the Argentine manager is convinced of his ability, Spurs may be spending on their next superstar this summer.
