Another game. Another loss. 3 on the bounce for Manchester United. The team who were considered a shoo-in for the title a week ago by the revered pundits suddenly find it impossible to win a football match. Beaten by lowly Feyenoord and Watford, the Red Devils have to introspect and come up with the answers on the pitch. Another Capoue and another Rashford goal before late goals from Zuniga and Deeney won the match for Watford. We rate the United players who competed with each other to come up with the worst performance of the match.
DE GEA- 5/10
Suicidal start as he almost pulled off a BRAVO and knocked out Smalling. A world class save sandwiched into a performance which was largely reminiscent of his early days.
VALENCIA- 5.5/10
Seems to be a false dawn for the player who was described as the best right-back in the world by Ander Herrera a couple of weeks back. Struggled to beat the first man and could not come up with a solution to United’s issues on the right.
Bailly- 6/10
Looked like a senior-pro amongst the shambles at the back but lost his composure when bombarded with the aerial attacks and physicality of the Hornets.
SMALLING- 6.5/10
Was reinstated in place of Blind after being adjudged fit to play but started off horrendously with a mix-up with De Gea and was suspect throughout making fans yearn for Blind’s composure and a cool head.
SHAW- 6/10
A glimmer of decency in an overall bad team performance. Was effective going forward and offered more than a lot of attacking players. Had a couple of lapses but looked okay.
FELLAINI- 5/10
Adjudged a reborn player after a couple of decent performances, the Belgian looked uncertain under pressure and seems to have let a small opening from where Carrick could make a long overdue appearance.
POGBA- 5/10
Had a couple of inspired moments but fast learning just that is not going to win the league in England. Was overshadowed by Etienne Capoue and looked ill-disciplined the moment things got difficult for him.
ROONEY- 3/10
Mourinho went back on his word an umpteenth time and started him in midfield before shifting him onto the No.10 role. Shambolic performance. Tough decisions incoming regarding him.
MARTIAL- 3/10
Shadow of a player from last season. The reason for slump unknown with a considerable time elapsed since the beginning of the season. Worrying signs for the French international. Relieved of a nightmare after being subbed due to injury.
RASHFORD- 6/10
Another goal from the player who was the only one looking like a Manchester United player in some parts. An inconsistent game with frequent changes in positions.
IBRAHIMOVIC- 5/10
Seemed half-hearted at times. Almost Rooney-like in his execution. But had an important hand with a clever movement for the goal.
SUBSTITUTES
YOUNG- 5.5/10
Came on for the injured Martial in the 38th minute. Tried hard but his crossing was wasteful on the day.
MATA- 6/10
Dropped unfairly from the team. The right side has been lacking balance ever since the shuffle. Was calm and composed on the ball but could not effect a turnaround.
DEPAY- 5/10
Ineffective after coming on.
