Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed via their website that Gaetan Bong has signed a new deal at the club. The new deal will see the left-back stay at the club beyond this season and end the following campaign playing for the Seagulls.
He has been in good form for them and has featured in 15 Premier League games for the club. He signed for the club back in the season of 2015 from Wigan Athletic. Ever since then he has been a significant player in the club’s roster and has helped the club grow in stature. He was a crucial cog in the team that secured promotion to the top flight of English football and it seems now that the club is ready to reward his contributions by offering him this contract. This is what he had to tell the club website.
“I’m very proud to sign a new contract with the club. I think we’re doing well and I just try to bring my positivity to the team,” Bong told club website. “I’m happy here and I thank the club for the confidence they’ve shown in me. I will do everything I can to help the team stay in this league.”
“Maybe it’s harder to play when you only have a one-year deal or a couple of months left on your contract, but I never think like that because when I’m on the pitch, I just think about playing.”
“When you have a longer deal for yourself and your family, of course, it’s a good thing, but if you’re not good on the pitch, even if you have a long deal, football can change so quickly. You just have to think about being good on the pitch and then everything else will come.”
The 29-year old Cameroon international will now have to shift their attention to their weekend Premier League fixture against Arsenal. The Seagulls are enjoying a terrific season in the top flight. They have slowly but surely climbed their way up. Their quiet progress went untracked at first and now everybody has been surprised to see Brighton and Hove up all the way in the 12th position in the league. With just another 10 games to go Brighton should be able to secure a safety position in the league and build on their success this season.
Keeping loyal players like Gaetan Bong who has seen the development of the club could go a long way in building a new foundation around Brighton.
