Arsenal are keeping an eye on AS Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim to succeed Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium. According to a recent report, the Portuguese manager has caught the attention of the Gunners chiefs with his style of football in Monaco. The Ligue 1 outfit won the league title in the last campaign ahead of big-spenders Paris Saint-Germain.
The 43-year-old boss also has a wealth of Champions League experience under his belt and a past record of developing young and promising talent. It seems like Monaco’s successful team is reaching its end and it could be time for the Barcelona born manager to move on to fresher challenges.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has come under increasing pressure following his side’s disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. The Frenchman’s contract at the Emirates Stadium does not run out until the summer of 2019. However, his position at the club is set to be reviewed at the end of this season. Some sources in the English media are now claiming that the North London club is now weighing up their options with a number of names likely to be considered which includes Leonardo Jardim.
The Gunners have slumped to sixth place in the Premier League table, eight points shy of fifth-placed Chelsea and 27 behind league leaders Manchester City. They have suffered the agony of a defeat in the League Cup final last weekend and are set to take on AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 stage. It seems like all of Arsenal’s eggs are in the Europa League basket as they try to salvage something from a season which has been a disappointment so far for Arsenal fans.
The potential arrival of Jardim could lift the North London club after Arsene Wenger’s departure as he has proven in the past that he has what it takes to win. Jardim has won the Ligue 1 title with Monaco last season and has also won the Greek League title with Olympiacos. As of today, he has taken charge of 209 matches during his time in France which has seen him win 120 matches, draw 45 matches and lost 44 matches in all competitions with a PPG (Points Per Game) of 1.94.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Jardim and whether he ends up moving to North London to succeed Wenger in the near future.
