Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a move for Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks in the summer. According to recent reports in the English media, the Blades youngster is being linked with a move to Spurs after enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Bramall Lane with five starts and 14 substitute appearances for the club so far this season. During that time, he has two goals and three assists to his name.
He has put in some sensational displays for Sheffield United this term and his brilliant form has caught the eyes of some of the Premier League’s elite clubs with recent sources claiming that Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs are in talks with the Championship club over a potential £10m transfer for Brooks next summer.
It is believed that Liverpool are also monitoring the progress of the young Welshman, who began his career with the Manchester City Academy. However, Brooks could be loaned back to Sheffield United in the next campaign as part of any potential deal. He has already made his senior debut for the Welsh national team and is currently contracted with the Blades until the summer of 2021 after he penned a new long-term deal in October last year. Hence, it is expected that he won’t come cheap and the North London outfit will need to cough up big-money if they are to convince the Blades to part ways with their prized asset.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently in 4th place in the Premier League table, just two points above fifth-placed Chelsea with just 10 league matches remaining this term. Spurs are hoping to finish in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for the next campaign and has recently secured a last-ditch victory at Selhurst Park courtesy of a Harry Kane header versus Crystal Palace on Sunday.
However, they are still a staggering 17 points behind the league leaders Manchester City and are in need dire need to bring in some reinforcements in the summer to bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years.
The addition of Brooks will undoubtedly bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield options going into the new season. Spurs have the likes of Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks vying for a place in Pochettino’s starting eleven. Brooks has immense potential and can be a regular starter for the North Londoners in the coming years if he can continue with his development. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Blades starlet and whether he ends up making a move to the Premier League in the near future.
