Reports have confirmed that contract talks have stalled between Tom Rogic and Celtic. The Australian international is an important member of the Hoops side and Celtic will want to have the deal wrapped up soon.
Reports are also indicative of the fact that the 25-year-old midfielder, who made his return to the pitch last week only, has not been happy with the initial offer made by the Hoops for a contract extension and rejected it. The Australian international has 15 months left in his contract, as efforts are being made by the Scottish champions to tie down the player at the Celtic Park with a long-term deal but they have not been able to reach any conclusion on this matter as of yet.
However, if things do not work out here are three replacements they can consider.
Roque Mesa
The 28-year old midfielder arrived in Swansea City from La Liga this summer in an eleven million pound deal. His signature was a highlighted move as he was a popular player in the La Liga having recorded statistics of a 91.4 percent pass completion rate, the fourth best in a league constituting the likes of Isco, Iniesta, Modric, and company.
However, things have not exactly gone to plan for the Spanish midfielder. He has not featured regularly for the Swans this season and has only played just over 1000 minutes of Premier League action overall even after Carlos Carvalhal’s appointment. The most striking stat is the fact that in this duration he has been unable to create or score a single goal for the Swans.
It is not exactly the signing they were hoping for having spent such a huge amount on him. However, his quality is beyond doubt and Celtic will have themselves a good player if they can wrap up his deal.
Thomas Cairney
The 26-year-old has been in excellent form this season at Craven Cottage. Fulham, who made it clear that they are not ready to part ways with any of their players and instead wants to bring in a few new faces, might be the major stumbling block in the progress of the deal.
Cairney has scored around 25 goals in over 100 appearances for Fulham and would be a good deal for Brendan Rodgers’ men, given his football dynamics. However, agreeing on a deal with a Fulham side who will in no way want to lose their captain will be difficult.
Nick Powell
The English player failed to impress at Manchester United where he made only 9 appearances in four years. He subsequently moved to Wigan in 2016 where he has impressed for the Latics.
He would prove to be another cheaper alternative for Swansea as Wigan are reportedly ready to give in to any incoming party seeking Powell and have placed a fee of £1.5 million should the Hoops wish to pry away the midfielder from the League One club.
