Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off later this year. According to recent reports, the French ace has not shown any indication of penning a new deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford with Spurs ready to pounce if he decides to leave the Manchester outfit.
Some sources have claimed that Martial is currently ‘at a standstill’ with regards to his talks about a new deal with the Red Devils. He is currently contracted at the club until the summer of 2019, with an option to extend his stay for a further year but United are looking to offer him a new deal which could certainly help appease everyone involved.
It is being reported that the French international’s agent has already met with Manchester United in December last year but nothing has materialised between the two parties since then.
Martial is weighing up his options and could consider a future away from Manchester. It is believed that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently monitoring his situation at Old Trafford with Serie A giants, Inter Milan and the reigning European champions, Real Madrid also interested in making a move for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team are currently in 5th place in the Premier League table, just a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea with just 11 league matches remaining this term. Spurs are hoping to finish in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for the next campaign. However, they are a massive 20 points behind the league leaders Manchester City and are in need dire need to bring in some reinforcements in the summer to bridge the gap between themselves and the Premier League’s ‘Top 4’ in the coming years.
The addition of Martial could turn out to a shrewd signing as he has the potential to develop into a Premier League superstar in the new few years. At 22, the French forward still has his peak years ahead of him which Spurs could look to utilise if they can convince United to part ways with their prized asset. The former AS Monaco youngster has made 37 appearances for the Red Devils this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists in all competitions.
He is also highly versatile and can operate on either flank or as a striker up top. It remains to be seen whether the France international ends up making a switch to North London in the near future.
