Reports in the media have confirmed that Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is seeking a transfer away from the club and wishes to join Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. It was believed that a transfer between the two clubs could have taken place in January over the 21-year-old but Real bosses were unwilling to let go of Ceballos.
It is now being reported that Ceballos is tired of sitting on the bench day in day out and wants to leave the Santiago Bernabeu. He reportedly wants to move to Merseyside to play for Liverpool. The young midfielder broke through the ranks at Real Betis where he was their star player. However, since his move to Madrid, his career has stalled with the player not given enough opportunities.
He has only played in 7 La Liga games for the defending champions and despite Real Madrid suffering in form and through injuries, Ceballos has been unable to cement a place in the first team. Real Madrid already has a host of midfield talent in their squad in the form of Marco Asensio, Isco, Luka Modric, Dani Ceballos, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Mateo Kovacic who can all play through the centre.
While Asensio and Isco are supposedly the future of the club, Kroos and Casemiro form the crux of the current team and are expected to be the backbone of the midfield for the coming years. However, with Modric at the dusk of his career and Kovacic unable to settle in, Ceballos could still become a vital member of the Bernabeu over the years.
However, it is believed that the player is unhappy and does not wish to any more time at this crucial juncture of his career by sitting on the bench. He is 21 and does not want to miss out on his development to the top. As for Liverpool, Klopp’s men have proved to be a masterclass in attack but their attitude without the ball remains a problem.
They recently lost their star man Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and were expected to replace him with another midfielder. However, Klopp had no rush and was happy to keep his side the way it was. Klopp still has the contract of Emre Can to figure out with the German’s contract ending at the end of this season. If Can were to leave, Ceballos would be an ideal fit to replace him in the middle three in the Liverpool line-up.
Moreover, given his low demand in the market, he would not even cost much to bring in; another advantage for Liverpool to think about.
