Manchester United are being linked with a move for Dinamo Zagreb youngster Nikola Moro. According to a report by Talksport, the Red Devils are ready to pounce on the 19-year-old midfielder’s signature but could face stiff competition from Benfica. The teenage starlet has been dubbed as the new Luka Modric after he put in some brilliant displays for Zagreb this season. The Croatian ace has featured in 36 matches in the league for Dinamo Zagreb and has earned some glittering reviews for his performance in the midfield.
His playing style and immense talent have seen him being compared to Croatian superstar Luka Modric, the Real Madrid playmaker who is regarded as one of his country’s best ever players. Moro’s sensational performances for the Croatian club has caught the attention of some of Europe’s elite clubs with Manchester United said to be monitoring his development having sent scouts to watch him in action.
Some sources are now claiming that Benfica are set to go head to head with Jose Mourinho’s side in pursuit of the youngster’s signature. However, it has also been suggested that the Red Devils will have the edge as the Portuguese giants won’t be able to compete with them financially.
Zagreb has already declined an offer which is believed to be around £12.5m from Shakhtar Donetsk so it is evident that they won’t part ways with him on the cheap despite his tender age.
Manchester United are currently sitting in second place in the Premier League table with a tally of 56 points in 27 league matches. In any other campaign, Jose Mourinho’s team would be well in contention of winning the league but the record-breaking form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them fall behind in the race for the league title.
The Citizens of Manchester are leading the Premier League by a staggering 16 points with the Red Devils desperately trying to play catch up with their ‘noisy neighbours’. The addition of Moro will undoubtedly bolster Jose Mourinho’s midfield options going into the future but it’s difficult to see him break into the Red Devils first-team with the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay all likely to be preferred ahead of him.
However, the 19-year-old has immense potential and could turn out to be a future star at Old Trafford if he can continue with his development. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Moro and whether he ends up making a move to the Premier League in the near future.
