Real Madrid are reportedly ready to part ways with Keylor Navas, who has been eyed by Premier League side Liverpool to address their current crisis in the goalkeeping department, despite the Costa Rican putting in some impressive shifts. They want a Galactico keeper between the sticks and here are three targets they can be looking at.
Jan Oblak
Real Madrid could sanction a move to bring in Slovenian keeper Jan Oblak. The 24-year-old stopper is currently playing for Atletico Madrid and his impressive performance in the last two seasons have put him on the radar for Europe’s top clubs.
He, like Courtois, developed under Simeone and is considered one of the finer keepers as was demonstrated when Chelsea faced Atletico Madrid in the group stages of the Champions League at Stamford Bridge. The Slovenian drew out some top-drawer saves that allowed his side to win a point
David De Gea
Real Madrid had come very close to securing the signature of Spanish stopper David De Gea in the summer of 2015. It involved a swap deal with Keylor Navas moving to Manchester United and David De Gea to Real Madrid. The goalkeeper, himself, had expressed his interest in completing a move to the Spanish capital and United it seemed had lost yet another superstar to Perez.
However, a late twist to the drama saw the move collapse in the eleventh hour and De Gea not only stayed at United for the time being but the Red Devil’s board managed to convince the Spaniard to a new four-year contract. Real moved away for the time being and stopped chasing De Gea.
After the end of this current season, De Gea will be entering his final twelve months at Manchester and Madrid come swooping for the Spaniard.
Thibaut Courtois
Chelsea custodian Thibaut Courtois has come out to the media claiming that his heart lies in Madrid. With the situation at Stamford Bridge already close to exploding yet again after a title-winning season, the Blues goalkeeper has now added further fuel to the fire by expressing his heart’s desire to return to Madrid one day.
“My personal situation is related to the city of Madrid,” he said. “My two children live there with their mum. I have my daughter every day on FaceTime. She often tells me that she misses me. My son is still too small to communicate like that.”
“Whenever I have the opportunity, I try to return to Spain. As a situation, it is not always easy. Yes, my heart is in Madrid. It is logical and understandable. If they want me, they have to contact Chelsea. We’ll see. But they have not done that. What is certain is that one day I will return to Madrid. I love Spain, I love the city, I spent three wonderful years there [with Atletico Madrid]. It is there that I became an adult.”
This would make him one of the hotter targets for Madrid to replace Navas.
