Manchester United found it difficult to match up against Sevilla at the Sánchez Pizjuán in an away fixture for the English side in the first leg of their Round of 16 encounter of the Champions League. The Red Devils were held to a goalless draw by the former Europa League champions, which makes the second leg an open encounter, with both the sides having everything to play for.
The Manchester United players are rated in the following manner-
David De Gea: 9
The Spanish goalkeeper is possibly the best player in the Manchester United lineup in the recent times and he proved it once again by making a number of crucial saves in the match against Sevilla to keep the match to a goalless draw.
Antonio Valencia: 6
A disappointing evening for the veteran ace, as he committed a series of mistakes, which could have gone against his side.
Victor Lindelof: 5
The Swedish centre-back has been a disappointment since his arrival at Old Trafford last summer and is set to be replaced by Eric Bailly in the forthcoming matches as the Ivorian attains full fitness after his horrendous display tonight.
Chris Smalling: 6
Though not as disappointing as his partner in the backline, the Englishman looked far from his prime and needs to improve his performances by leaps and bounds to find a place in the starting lineup on a regular basis.
Ashley Young: 7
Proved to be the one solid player in the defence for the Red Devils. His composure and high work rate on the night should be an example to follow for his teammates.
Nemanja Matic: 6
A disciplined effort but not the best one for the Serbian enforcer.
Scott McTominay: 7
Did a decent job in the middle of the pitch to keep control of the ball and passing it well. Should be handed more opportunities in the near future.
Ander Herrera: 5
Had to be substituted in the 17th minute due to a muscle injury.
Alexis Sanchez: 5
Looked nowhere near his best on the night and had to be brought off, his only contribution being a superbly threaded ball to set up Romelu Lukaku.
Juan Mata: 4
Possibly the worst player for United on the night. Was totally predictable with his runs and ball play and was substituted in the second half.
Romelu Lukaku: 5
Looked tired and frustrated as the game progressed. Missed chances to put his team ahead. Had a goal disallowed for handball.
Substitutes
Paul Pogba: 5
Did nothing much other than putting some fancy footwork on display.
Marcus Rashford: 6
Looked like a ray of hope for the Red Devils but shot wide twice to end his night on a rather disappointing note.
Anthony Martial: 7
His quick feet caused some problems for the defenders, especially Navas, but was not good enough to get his side that all important away goal.
