The effect of a managerial change at a football club sets into the event a chain of reaction and the most gargantuan of outcomes. An innumerable number of permutations and combinations are at play which decides the outcome of the success of a managerial change.
When Garry Monk shocked Leeds United at the end of last season by resigning from his job, it brought into the picture a certain Thomas Christiansen. Monk’s departure had left the fans in dismay and many believed that Monk could have contributed to the club’s growth had he stayed.
As it turns out in football, one of Monk’s greatest contribution has continued to flourish at the club despite the manager being long gone. It is none other than Pablo Hernandez. The talented attacker has been a focal point in Leeds’ attack this season and is reportedly keen on a new contract.
“I don’t know,” Hernandez said when asked if he expected to earn an extension. “I don’t receive anything new from the club. I can’t tell you anything about this. I prefer only to focus on the next games and give 100 percent for the club. I can’t talk about this.”
Hernandez made it very clear that he is expecting a new contract and will be ready to jump the gun to sign it should Leeds offer him a new deal. “Yes, obviously. I’m very happy here. I feel the fans and my team-mates, all the people, would like it if I stay here but it depends not only on me.”
Hernandez was recently handed the armband at Elland road and the former Swansea City player exclaimed his honour in being given the title. Hernandez said: “It’s a responsibility and for me an honour to be captain. If the gaffer decides that I’m captain I don’t have a problem.”
Leeds faced yet another disappointing result when they were held to 2-2 draw against Bristol City and needed two late goals to earn them a point. They are now winless in nine matches and have lost six of them. Christiansen’s sacking has failed to alert the team to the danger of their falling standards.
Their recent wretched run of results has left them well off the pace and they will now look to save their season before mounting another assault next time. In such a situation it is important they hold on to key players like Hernandez who could propel the club to the Premier League.
