Latest sources are claiming that Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain are not interested in securing the services of Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo. The Ligue 1 side was heavily linked with a move for the United defender but it is now being claimed that PSG are re-thinking their transfer policies.
They spent heavily in the last few years signing the two most expensive players in the world in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The Paris outfit are now in probable trouble with Financial Fair Play and will need to offload a few players first to balance the books,
Moreover, the club still lacks efficient first-team players in several positions. They need a cover for Thiago Motta who is ageing fast and will make a central midfielder their top priority.
As for United, if there is one thing you can expect from a Jose Mourinho side, it is that his defence will make you work hard to put one past them. Over 15 years into the game of management and Mourinho has managed four to five world-class sides. The one thing common is that the teams had mean defences which would be rock hard to get past.
Currently, at the helm at Old Trafford, Mourinho is leading the title siege for the red half at Manchester. A disappointing league campaign last season that was primarily down to the lack of goals, United have turned things around to an extent this season. They have reinforced their attacking line with the likes of Romely Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
However, as expected, it did not mean that his defence loosened up simply because his forward line has been upgraded. In fact, Mourinho’s men have conceded just 19 goals in the league this season, the best defensive record in England. On paper now, the Red Devils boast of an extremely talented attack but their defence is still shaky on occasions and has been bailed out multiple times by the brilliance of David De Gea.
It is believed that Jose Mourinho wants to now reorganize his backline and is ready to part ways with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. He, however, wants to continue with Argentine ace Marcos Rojo. If Jones and Smalling were to empty up space at the back, Rojo would definitely be one of the first choice defenders at United.
The 27-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament injury last season and has played only 10 games for the club since. However, Mourinho sees him as an important cog in his Old Trafford campaign and wants the club to tie him down to a new contract.
Rojo will have exactly one year left on his contract come May and will be free to negotiate deals with clubs outside the Premier League come next January unless United negotiate a new contract with him. The news that Paris are not interested in Rojo will then come as a great source of relief to Mourinho who will want to build a steady defence with Rojo playing an important role in the side.
