Ajax winger Justin Kluivert has been linked with a move to Barcelona. The son of former star Patrick Kluivert, Justin is only 18 but is fairly making his own name in the football circuit. Latest reports have confirmed that Barcelona are interested in bringing in the starlet to Camp Nou in the summer.
The youngster is a regular starter at Ajax and has scored 6 goals in 23 games this season. “I want to keep the Kluivert name high,” he said. “Everyone knows the name. That must motivate you. I’m going to the top like my father. Maybe it will be a bit less, maybe better. I don’t find it irritating, though. He just makes me proud. It’s nice to have a father like that. He has been on the ride.”
The winger has the ability to play in either wing but prefers to operate from the left. “I’m happy that I’ve had the chance on the left wing lately,” he said. “That is really my position, but I must get better and must make more goals. I’m 18 years old and only just starting. Everything is different now. Opponents get to know you and I get covered twice as much. I see it as a compliment.”
Barcelona who had seen the best of Kluivert’s father, Patrick; could not also get his son to don the Catalan club’s jersey. They will, however, have to fend off interest from several top clubs including three English Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
If you get a nice offer, you never know,” he told Helden. “England appeals to me: Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea or Manchester United are nice clubs where I can see myself playing in a few years.”
However, Kluivert is also not ruling out a move to Spain. He added: “Everywhere I go abroad they know my father, he often asked: ‘Come to Barcelona, I’ll give a tour of Camp Nou. I really wanted to go to Barcelona instead of Real Madrid. Barcelona is in my heart, but who am I to say no to Real Madrid?”
It seems like the teenager will have his pick of the top club and he must be careful with his decision. While going to Barcelona sounds like a dream move for him and his family, he must be aware of the situation at the club. Barcelona has a host of talented attacking players at the moment in Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez. Hence it is most likely he will have to spend most of his time on the bench, a prospect that could ruin his career.
