Galatasaray could be willing to sell their winger Garry Rodrigues in the summer which will come as a big boost for Newcastle United after the club’s recent pursuit of the player. According to recent reports, the Turkish giants are ready to sanction a deal for the Cape Verde international next summer with the Magpies ready to pounce on his signature. The Premier League club has already seen two of their bids get rejected for the 27-year-old winger over the past year. It is believed that Galatasaray rejected a £6m offer from the Tyneside outfit in August and they turned down another bid in the region of £7m from Newcastle during the January transfer window.
Some sources are now claiming that Gala are ready to cash in on their prized asset as they are currently going through some financial troubles which could make Rafael Benitez come back with a third bid for the player. It is being reported that an offer in the region of £8.8m would be enough to convince the Turkish club to do business next summer with Newcastle’s last bid not too far off from that figure.
Rodrigues has been in sensational form for Gala this season, scoring 5 goals and providing 7 assists in 26 appearances in all competitions. He will undoubtedly bolster Benitez’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign if they manage to snap him up this summer.
The Magpies are currently occupying 13th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 28 points in 27 league matches. Rafael Benitez’s team still finds themselves just two points above the drop zone and are in real danger of suffering the agony of being relegated to the English Championship at the end of the season. They are in dire need to bring in some new faces during the summer transfer period in their quest to push on and improve their league performance in the next campaign.
The potential addition of Rodrigues will definitely improve their squad depth ahead of the new season and might help them close the gap to the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ in the coming years.
Rodrigues is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the frontline. He can play on either wing or as a striker up top which makes him an ideal asset for any team. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the 27-year-old winger and whether Newcastle are successful in luring him to St. James Park next summer.
