Aston Villa are set to miss out on a permanent signing for Robert Snodgrass with the player willing to return to West Ham United. The Villains have had Snodgrass on loan this season and the 30-year-old has appeared 26 times in the EFL Championship this season and currently holds the joint-best assist record of 9 set-ups. He is clearly enjoying his stint with the Villans and has racked up six goals as well.
However, it is believed that both the player and West Ham are keen on reuniting at London Stadium at the end of this season. Snodgrass is due to turn 31 next season and Moyes wants to give the player one last chance of proving his worth in a Hammers jersey.
The transfer to West Ham United turned out to be a failure with the former manager, Slaven Bilic unable to utilize Snodgrass and the player was subsequently loaned out. The player had cost West Ham a healthy £10.2 million and after a season of just 15 appearances, 2 assists and zero goals, the Scot needed to find a different club to play for.
Snodgrass can play on either the wing but prefers to operate from the right flank from where he can cut in or as an attacking midfielder. A lethal left-foot paired with an ability to dribble through defences every now and then, Snodgrass has what it takes to take over the role of the creative fulcrum in the team When on the wings he has the ability to play wide and stretch the game for his team. He came into the limelight during his days with Leeds United.
He appeared in 187 games for the Peacocks and has scored 41 goals along with 40 assists. He was awarded the Leeds’ Fans Player Of The Year and the Player’s Player Of The Year honours in the 2011/12 season. The Championship side handed him a contract which would have named him the highest paid player within the club ranks but he turned it down to play for Norwich City.
Unfortunately for the Glasgow-born winger, he failed to light up his career in the Premier League. He switched clubs thrice amongst Norwich City, Hull City and West Ham United but failed to settle into any team. Only in the second tier of English football has he been fully able to convince every one of his abilities.
While a move to West Ham would be a new challenge for Snodgrass, he must consider once again before leaving Villa as he has comfortably settled into the team here and is playing some excellent football at the moment.
