Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela is considering making a move to Inter Milan in the near future. According to a report by Talksport, the Argentinian talent is open to making a switch to Italy so that he can try and reignite his career which has been plagued by injuries. The 25-year-old has recently returned to Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team after being sidelined due to an injury for over a year. The South American is slowly establishing himself once again under Spurs boss Pochettino since making a comeback and his displays of late have caught the attention of Serie A giants Inter Milan.
The San Siro-based outfit are eager to secure the services of Lamela in the summer and some sources in Italy have now claimed that the player is open to making a switch to Italian football. The winger made a name for himself in Italy during his time at AS Roma and he is eager to return to Serie A in the near future.
However, the Lilywhites have not given any indication that they would be willing to part ways with their prized asset. The 25-year-old is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. He can play on either flank or in the number 10 position which makes him an ideal asset to any team.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently in 5th place in the Premier League table, just a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea with just 11 league matches remaining this term. Spurs are trying their best to finish in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for another season. However, they are a staggering 20 points behind the league leaders Manchester City and are in need dire need to bring in some reinforcements in the summer to bridge the gap between themselves and the Premier League’s ‘Top 4’ in the next few years.
The potential departure of someone of the calibre of Lamela could leave the North London outfit’s squad depth significantly depleted ahead of the new campaign unless they manage to bring in a replacement. The Argentinian midfielder has made 18 appearances this term, scoring a goal and providing three assists in all competitions. His time at Spurs has been frustrating, to say the least. Lamela has failed to establish himself in English football and his track record with injuries has derailed his career.
It’s high time he made a move abroad while Pochettino could look to use the money generated from his possible sale to strengthen other areas of his squad. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the ex-River Plate talent and whether he ends up making a move to Inter Milan in the near future.
