AS Roma are eager to include a €90m release clause in their goalkeeper Allison’s contract in an effort to fend off interest from abroad. According to recent reports in the Italian media, both Liverpool and Real Madrid are interested in sealing a move for the Brazilian keeper next summer with some sources claiming that the Spanish giants are ready to make a €50m offer for the player.
Roma are eager to increase the Brazilian’s wages to €5m a year from his current €1.5m per season, as well as add a €90m clause for any team outside of Serie A vying for Allison’s signature. The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his goalkeeping options after both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has failed to impress with their performances this season. Alisson has kept 13 clean sheets in 30 matches for AS Roma in all competitions this term. He has put in some match-winning displays for the Serie A side in this campaign and is currently keeping out Manchester City’s Ederson out of the Brazilian national team’s starting eleven.
Only time will tell whether the Merseyside club will end up meeting AS Roma’s current valuation of the player. They have sold Phillipe Coutinho in the January transfer period and are well equipped to cough up a bid close to Roma’s valuation.
The Reds are currently occupying 3rd place in the Premier League table after securing a comfortable 2-0 victory away at Southampton in the last gameweek. The Merseyside club find themselves just above Chelsea, who are in fifth place with a point separating the two teams at the moment.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side are a staggering 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City. The addition of Alisson would go a long way in helping them bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years.
The Liverpool defence has been leaky, to say the least during this campaign. The Reds’ goalkeeping duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has conceded 31 goals in 27 Premier League matches. The acquisition of Alisson could be a significant upgrade over the duo in what is expected to be another extremely competitive Premier League campaign next term. The Brazilian has a wealth of experience in Italy and Brazil but could need time to settle into English football. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Alisson and whether the Reds are able to convince AS Roma to part ways with their prized asset.
