A pulsating 2-2 draw came to an end at Turin with Tottenham Hotspur coming away the happier of the two sides thanks to their two away goals. The North London side produced a fine comeback after going 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes. With the second leg still to come, the tie is far from decided but Tottenham can be happy with their display tonight. Here is how the players performed.
Hugo Lloris: 8/10
Could do little about the goals he conceded. Made a few crucial saves to keep Spurs in the game. Will be worried about the possible return of Dybala for the next but a captain’s performance on the night.
Serge Aurier: 4.5/10
The weakest link in the Tottenham backline. He kept doing unnecessary things that landed him in trouble. Made a clumsy, late foul to give away the penalty which Higuain missed. Also made another silly tackle to get himself on the books and now will miss the second leg through suspension.
Davinson Sanchez: 6.5/10
Not one of his best nights in Tottenham jersey. He looked ill at ease against Juventus’ number nine and gave the ball away dangerously on a few occasions.
Jan Vertonghen: 7/10
The more stable of the two centre-backs. He made a couple of good tackles and his distribution was good as usual.
Ben Davies: 5.5/10
A solid shift down the left after a moment of stupidity in the first half when he gave away the penalty. His crossing was good but nobody could get on the end of it.
Moussa Dembele: 6.5/10
Struggled initially to find his rhythm and was harassed by Juventus players. However, he kept his composure and came back strongly as the match progressed.
Eric Dier: 6/10
Pochettino needs to clearly define his role quickly otherwise England will face losing another talent. The player is too often switched between centre-back and defensive midfield and today it was evident as he was unsure of his tasks at times and gave the ball away cheaply.
Erik Lamela: 5/10
Lamela’s return from injury has been for some time now. He needs to do more to command a first-team place. Pochettino should not be blind about his fellow Argentine and if Lamela continues to play so average, there are better players like Lucas and Son waiting to snap up his place.
Christian Eriksen: 8.5/10
A clever free-kick and the best player on the pitch by far on the night. Rarely lost a ball and kept moving around to create space and passes for his team. He was their heartbeat and single-handedly outplayed Juventus in the midfield.
Dele Alli: 7.5/10
A smart assist for Kane and a clever run to win the free-kick scored by Alli. Big match player.
Harry Kane: 8/10
Brilliant curling run to escape the defenders and beat the offside trap. Then kept his calm to round Buffon and score the first goal for Spurs. He is truly the best number nine in Europe at the moment.
