Manchester City are plotting a move for Hamburg wonderkid, Josha Vagnoman next summer. According to recent reports in the English media, the Citizens are among a whole host of clubs looking to acquire his services at the end of the current season. The German youngster is considered as one of best young talents in the country.
The 17-year-old is highly versatile and can operate at both left and right full-back positions. Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also interested in recruiting him and could give the Citizens a real run for their money in pursuit of the German talent’s signature.
Vagnoman has trained with Hamburg’s first team squad last week and the Bundesliga club were looking to include him in their squad which suffered a 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The German club has already tried to tie him down to a professional contract for quite some time as Vagnoman cannot feature in the first team until he signs professional forms.
The youngster has featured in every game for Germany at the Under-17 World Cup where his country were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Brazil. England ended up winning the tournament in India, comprehensively beating Spain 5-2 in the final inspired by Phil Foden’s brace.
The Citizens are currently leading the Premier League table with a tally of 72 points in 27 league matches. They are in cruise control as they look to earn another league title at the top tier of English football with a staggering 16 point lead over their crosstown rivals Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola’s side are still participating in four different competitions, having already secured qualification to the final of the Carabao Cup while also going through into the fifth round draw of the FA Cup. The potential addition of Vagnoman next summer could prove to be a shrewd piece of business that will undoubtedly bolster Guardiola’s defensive options at the Etihad Stadium in a few years time.
Manchester City currently boasts the likes of John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and new signing, Aymeric Laporte in their matchday squad while club captain Vincent Kompany has struggled with his fitness this season. The acquisition of Vagnoman as an understudy of Kompany could prepare the youngster to be a long-term replacement for the club captain.
The German wonder-kid has immense potential and can develop into a classy defender at the Etihad Stadium in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Hamburg youngster and whether he ends up making a move to the Premier League.
