Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal has expressed his desire to stay at the club for the near future. According to a recent report, the Chilean midfielder has reiterated his happiness while playing in German football. Vidal has admitted that he would welcome the chance to sign a new deal at Bayern Munich amidst interest from Chelsea. The 30-year-old midfielder was subject to a lot of speculation linking him with a move abroad during the January transfer window.
With the Bundesliga champions sealing a summer move for Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, it has been claimed that the Chilean will be shipped out of Munich next summer. Vidal’s current deal with the club is set to expire in the summer of 2019 but the South American midfielder has opened up about his future and in a recent interview, he was quoted to have said,
“I play in this team for a reason, and I’m certainly one of the world’s best in my position for a reason.
“I do not think about a change, I feel really good here.
“Of course I would like to extend. This is an option and my children are very happy here.”
“I don’t know if I’ve been this good here before.
“It’s clear I feel very good, especially physically, and I have no problems with injuries, which helps me.”
Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes has indicated that he would like to extend his stay at the club. He stated, “For me he is a fundamental player in our team.
“He is playing at a very good level, he’s just a class player, a player who is hugely experienced, a player who is on point when you need him.
“My opinion is that he is very important. I consider him a fantastic footballer. The player has to decide if he wants to stay here, and the club too.”
The club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has shared the same sentiments as the manager and said,
“I do not know what some newspapers write.
“Arturo is a true professional and he impressively proved to Schalke that he is one of the leading players here.”
The addition of Vidal would have definitely bolstered the Chelsea squad for the coming years and would have helped the Stamford Bridge club in their quest to bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. However, it looks like any deal in the summer would be highly unlikely for the Blues. They are currently in fifth place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 50 points in 26 Premier League matches but are a massive 22 points behind league leaders Manchester City with a home game against West Bromwich Albion coming up on Monday night.
Vidal has made 28 appearances for Bayern Munich this season, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists in all competitions. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Chilean international and whether Chelsea can conjure up a move for him in the near future.
