Liverpool are currently eyeing a move for Leicester City’s Wilfred Nididi in the near future. Emre Can might just leave Anfield in the summer and the Reds have chosen the Nigerian defensive maestro to replace him. Keep in mind they have already signed Naby Keita from RB Leipzig but now it looks like they will continue to bolster the squad ranks ahead of the next season.
Ndidi arrived at the King Power Stadium last year in January for £17m as N’Golo Kante’s replacement in the heart of the midfield. He is an integral part of the Foxes lineup with 29 total appearances across all competitions along with 1 goal and 4 assists. The 21-year-old has taken over his role with a lot of maturity and composure and is improving significantly with each game. He had already impressed with his former side, KRC Genk and has been capped at international level 14 times for the Nigerian senior team. He made his debut on 8 October 2015 in the friendly game against DR Congo.
Leicester’s impressive 8th placed season in the Premier League can be credited, to a certain extent, the brilliant midfield partnership of Vincent Iborra and Ndidi next to the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton. It is of no surprise that Jurgen Klopp has taken note of the starlet’s development and it looks like the German will have to break the bank to sign him.
Can’s situation at Liverpool has been peculiar, to say the least. Standing at 1.84 metres tall, Can is a well-built presence in the heart of the park and plays in the defensive midfield for Liverpool. The German international is a key figure under Klopp and has racked up 4 goals and 3 assists in 29 total appearances this season.
Can might just join Juventus after this season, ever since talks of an extension turned sour with the club’s hierarchy. Klopp has favoured the former Bayer Leverkusen player in the majority of the games over the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson on some occasions.
Can brings a high energy into the Liverpool midfield with a lot of technical ability on the ball. He fills up the gaps on both ends of the pitch and is a crucial figure in Klopp’s style of play. Ndidi might not be able to replicate the German’s offensive quality but will add a completely different dynamic. Liverpool’s chase for the league title might just be taking severe blows from the inconsistencies of Wijnaldum which could be answered by Ndidi.
