Napoli midfield ace is set to stay with the Italian Serie A side according to latest reports. The player’s representative Joao Santos suggests the cold climates in England could scupper a potential move to the north-west.
Santos told Italian Radio Crc: “From June he’ll have two years on his contract and maybe we’ll start discussing it then, it’s pointless messing with his head. The contract isn’t expiring anytime soon, there’s time. He’s happy in Naples, Jorginho is happy and the city is very beautiful.
“Manchester United and Manchester City? When you’re playing for the Serie A leaders it’s only logical that important teams will ask for updates: for example on the length of the contract. I’m glad to come here [to Naples] too, it’s a very Brazilian climate. In Manchester, it rains too often!”
“Jorginho is fine, he’s always at Napoli’s disposal,” Santos added. “He’s fine with Sarri, he plays his role and he’s happy. On Saturday I will be at the San Paolo stadium, a very important match awaits us, we hope Fiorentina will succeed in getting a result against Juventus. Right now I’m just here to see the Lazio game, we’re not talking about a renewal yet because we want to focus on the league.”
Such a development would mean that Jose Mourinho’s hope to bring the midfielder to England would now seem difficult and he will want to look elsewhere. Here are three possibilities he can consider.
Jean Michael Seri
The player in question here is Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri. He is valued at around £35 million. He could well be on his way to England this summer.
The Ivory Coast midfielder is a star player at the French club and has played over a 100 games since his move back in 2015. He was linked heavily with a move to Barcelona but the Catalans pulled out at the last minute. A player with an engine to run for 90 minutes he would certainly shape the United midfield for years to come.
Arturo Vidal
Arturo Vidal of Bayern Munich is nearing the end of his contract at the German club. The midfield dynamo from Chile is a mainstay in the middle of the park for them and has a playing style that makes him an ideal modern day midfielder. He is smart on the ball and has a peripheral range of distribution. However, what makes him a world class midfielder is the fact that he is an absolute nightmare to deal with when off the ball. He can cover every blade of grass on a weekly basis and has a knack for the outrageous shots from outside the box.
Serjec Milinkovic-Savic
The 22-year old Serbian midfielder currently plays for Lazio. The central midfielder is an action-packed player and has a tenacious engine to keep playing 90 minutes day in day out. His added quality of having a keen eye for goal is however what sets him apart for someone his age. With years of peak football ahead of him; it is no secret why the big clubs are chasing his signature. Since his move to Lazio in the summer of 2015, Savic has made over 100 appearances for the club scoring 19 goals and creating another 17. He will no doubt add much more as he continues to develop and United could do with a player like him.
