Manchester United are keeping tabs on the progress of Barcelona starlet Pablo Moreno. According to a report by Talksport, the Red Devils are set to go head to head with Manchester City in pursuit of the 15-year-old’s signature. The young forward has been in sensational form for Barcelona’s youth side this season and has found the back of the net 16 times which has put him on top of the goal-scoring charts in his age group. It is no wonder that the Catalans are trying to hold on to Moreno, who has been labelled a ‘killer’ in Spain due to his goal-scoring prowess and ruthlessness in front of goal.
The La Liga leaders are reportedly planning to meet with the player and his representatives to negotiate terms of a contract which would potentially end some of the interest for his services from England. Some sources in the Spanish media are claiming that both Manchester United and Manchester City are monitoring the teenager’s situation at Barcelona and could try to make a move for him in the summer transfer window.
Now the proverbial ball is on Barca’s court as it is totally up to the club to convince the 15-year-old wonder-kid to extend his stay at the Nou Camp rather than make a move to Manchester to link up with either Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho in the Premier League.
Manchester United are currently occupying the second place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 56 points in 26 league matches. In any other campaign, Jose Mourinho’s team would be well in contention of winning the league but the record-breaking form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them fall behind in the race for the league title. The Citizens of Manchester are leading the Premier League by a staggering 13 points with the Red Devils desperately trying to play catch up with their ‘noisy neighbours’.
The addition of Pablo Moreno will undoubtedly be a massive coup for the Red Devils if they manage to lure him to Old Trafford. The 15-year-old youngster has immense potential and could develop into a future superstar in world football. His goalscoring record at such a young age is eye-catching, to say the least.
Jose Mourinho might not be the ideal manager to nurture him but United’s academy is second to none and has a track record of producing some top talents which could include Moreno’s name if he decided to make a switch to Manchester. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Moreno and whether United can fend off stiff competition from City in pursuit of his signature.
