An absolute shocking result at Vicarage Road tonight which saw the hosts, Watford beat Chelsea 4 goals to nil. The Hornets dominated the entire the game and took a deserved lead from Troy Deeney’s well-struck penalty in the first half. Their case was further helped after Tiemoue Bakayoko’s second yellow card in quick succession to the earlier one got himself suspended from the game. With a 10 men Chelsea, Javi Gracia’s men slowly started to get a wholesome grip on the game.
For a while, it looked like the match was going to end with just that one goal but at the 82nd minute out of nowhere, Eden Hazard put the Watford defence on the back foot with a quick turn and curled in a remarkable effort past Karnezis. Chelsea got their equalizer but only for a short couple of minutes as the floodgates opened and the hosts ended the game with 3 goals within a span of 7 minutes.
The entire Chelsea defence was left dumbfounded over Watford’s energy and eagerness to win the game.
Watford Players Rated And Slated
Orestis Karnezis – 6/10
Could have done better to get a fingertip on Eden Hazard’s curled effort but the jury might still be out on that. He was sharp and precise for the entire 90 minutes.
José Holebas – 6/10
Very disciplined in his newfound role in the back three.
Sebastian Prodl – 7/10
Commanded the backline with an inspired performance. Even though he was no match for the quick Hazard, he did well to hold the Belgian off.
Adrian Mariappa – 6/10
Another solid shift by the Jamaican.
Daryl Janmaat – 8/10
Nobody knew that Janmaat was capable of what he showcased today in crunch time to give his team the lead for a second time. A quick one-two inside the box along with a cool and composed centre-forwards finish is deserved of high praise. Other than the goal, he put in a great defensive shift as well and did not allow Zappacosta to get the better of him.
Marvin Zeegelaar – 6/10
Took a lot of hard knocks today but still got up and soldiered on throughout the 90 minutes.
Abdoulaye Doucouré – 7/10
Maintained the entire structure of the Watford lineup and always looked menacing going forward.
Etienne Capoue – 6/10
The Frenchman looks better than ever and worked hard to match up to Kante’s energy.
Richarlison – 7/10
The Brazilian had to be taken off after picking up a yellow but still had a huge hand in Watford’s win today. He maintained the high tempo of the Watford attacks and ran at the opposition defence for the entirety of his 65 minutes on the pitch.
Gerard Deulofeu – 9/10
A debut performance like no other and well deserving of the Man Of The Match award. He terrorized the Chelsea defense with his pace and backdoor runs. The Spaniard was too quick for Courtois in reaching the ball and earned his side the penalty in the opening half.
Troy Deeney – 7/10
Linked up really well with the wide men and slotted in the penalty.
Substitutes:
Roberto Pereyra – 7/10
A clever fake allowed him to get just an inch of space ahead of Azpilicueta and the former Juventus man drilled it past Courtois to kill of the game for good.
Andre Carrillo – NA
Andre Gray – NA
