An absolute shocking result at Vicarage Road tonight which saw the hosts, Watford beat Chelsea 4 goals to nil. The Hornets dominated the entire the game and took a deserved lead from Troy Deeney’s well-struck penalty in the first half. Bakayoko’s red card allowed Watford to start getting a firm grip on the Chelsea defence.
And it looked like the match was going to end with just that one goal, but after Eden Hazard’s curled in the equalizer, 10 minutes from time, the floodgates opened up for Javi Gracia’s men as they slotted in 3 in the late stages of the game.
Chelsea Players Rated And Slated:
Thibaut Courtois – 5/10
He could not reach the ball fast enough and unfortunately caught Deulafou inside the box. Deeney’s penalty was sweetly struck and the rest of the three goals were just too well hit to force a save out of the Belgian.
David Luiz – 5/10
Very cool and composed for the majority of the game but got himself booked with a bad tackle. His distribution was commendable.
Gary Cahill – 4/10
He was no match for Deulofeu’s pace and was caught ball watching on certain occasions. Allowed both Janmaat and the Spaniard to get past him for the 2nd and 3rd Watford goal.
Cezar Azpilicueta – 6/10
The leader of the Chelsea backline, Azpilicueta did everything today. He went up to provide the team with some width from the right while at the same time maintained discipline at the back.
Victor Moses – 5/10
Another lacklustre display by the Nigerian. A scarcity of imagination often hinders his impact in such high-intensity games.
Pablo Zappacosta – 5/10
He did the needful and delivered a few good balls into the box but struggled to keep up with Deulofeu at the back.
N’Golo Kante – 6/10
Ran rampant around the centre-circle as per usual but could not provide much going forward.
Completely off the pace of the game and a constant struggle to hold onto the ball in the midfield makes every Chelsea fan question his selection on a regular basis. The second yellow might have been a harsh decision to face but still was clumsy enough to cost his side eventually.
Pedro – 5/10
Could not really make a significant mark on the game. A restless runner but no end product.
Willian – 4/10
Another poor display from the Brazilian as he looked less than comfortable during a short spell on the pitch.
Eden Hazard – 8/10
Class apart. Could have given up with frustration over the lack of supply from the back, but kept his cool and curled in a wonderful effort to give his team a short-term equaliser. Not at all suited to be in the striker role.
Substitutes:
Cesc Fabregas – 5/10
Often got caught by the high pressing tactics of the Watford lineup. He somehow instilled a bit of fluidity into the Chelsea midfield.
Olivier Giroud – 6/10
Brought a solid presence inside the opposition box.
