Crystal Palace are reportedly in the race to bring in Scunthorpe United forward Hakeeb Adelakun. The 21-year old has been a star performer in the League One circuit and has helped his club to a place in the top four in the first half of the season. The young forward has hit four goals and has recorded 12 assists this season.
He was subjected to a deadline day bid from Hull City boss Nigel Adkins but Scunthorpe turned it down as they want to keep their best player to attempt for an automatic promotion this season. However, with the player’s contract running out this summer and the club yet to convince him to stay longer, Adelakun may well be on his way out.
The player is extremely good when it comes to holding up the ball or working the channel and at 21, has a lot of time to improve his game. He is being sought out by Palace who want to him bag him in the summer.
As for Palace, they have had their own drama to deal with. Crystal Palace had the worst possible start to the season. After the first seven-game weeks, the team was sitting on zero points having lost all seven matches. It eventually led to the sacking of manager Frank De Boer and the Dutchman was replaced by Roy Hodgson. The change did not have an immediate effect but the big turnaround came with a win against champions Chelsea.
A turnaround of sorts has come since then and Palace are now standing on the 13th spot on the Premier League table. The Palace players who had been inconsistent and unimpressive, to say the least, are showing signs of hard work and churning out decent performances.
However, as was proven with his return, missing Christian Benteke was not the only reason for the club suffering this season as even after his comeback; the Belgian has not been able to replicate his old form. The striker who was tipped to lead the frontline of the talented Belgian team has lost his way and has been replaced by Romelu Lukaku in the national set-up.
They will soon need to find a replacement for the misfiring Benteke and in such a scenario, it would be a perfect foil for both player and the club to have Adelukan playing his football at Palace.
