Ajax winger Justin Kluivert has been linked with a move to Manchester United. The son of former star Patrick Kluivert, Justin is only 18 but is fairly making his own name in the football circuit. Latest reports have confirmed that United are interested in bringing in the starlet to Old Trafford in the summer.
The youngster is a regular starter at Ajax and has scored 6 goals in 23 games this season. After United’s win over Ajax in the Europa League final last season, the Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho was spotted in speaking to the player. Rumours suggested that he could have been tapping up the youngster but Kluivert calmed the media by saying, “He just liked to see me. Mourinho knows me from the time that I was a little boy and my father played at Barcelona when Mourinho worked there as an assistant trainer.”
It now seems that United are ready to swoop in for him with a fee of £10million with various add-ons. The Old Trafford outfit had chased his father in the Ferguson era but could never land the Barcelona star. It now seems that it could be his son who could be on his way and young Justin has all the intention of living up to the billing.
“I want to keep the Kluivert name high,” he said. “Everyone knows the name. That must motivate you. I’m going to the top like my father. Maybe it will be a bit less, maybe better. I don’t find it irritating, though. He just makes me proud. It’s nice to have a father like that. He has been on the ride.”
The winger has the ability to play in either wing but prefers to operate from the left. “I’m happy that I’ve had the chance on the left wing lately,” he said. “That is really my position, but I must get better and must make more goals. I’m 18 years old and only just starting. Everything is different now. Opponents get to know you and I get covered twice as much. I see it as a compliment.”
Although he would be a real scoop for United, the Red Devils must be cautious of overloading their final third. They already have Alexis Sanchez as a compulsory starter on the left flank with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford competing for a single spot on the other wing. Bringing in another young potential would damage not only the development of the new signing but also hamper the progress of the existing crop of players.
