Arsenal’s new technical director, Raul Sanllehi has taken up his post at the Emirates and is already creating a list of players the club should be pursuing in the following transfer window. They are preparing to revisit the possibility of signing FC Girondins de Bordeaux winger, Malcom in the summer.
When asked about the failed transfer to the Premier League, Malcom said, “I wanted to leave. I tell the truth. It’s my dream to progress in my career. I spoke with the president [Stephane Martin], he told me that he knew it was my dream, but that he needed me. I told him he could count on me until the end [of the season]. I will do everything to bring Bordeaux to the top six in.”
This is obviously a promising sign for Arsene Wenger who needs an out-and-out winger after the departure of both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from the club. Malcolm is a product of Brazilian club, Corinthians and primarily developed his game there with 73 appearances for the side. He arrived at Matmut Atlantique on 31 January 2016 for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Ever since his arrival Malcolm has taken the Ligue 1 by storm scoring 8 goals in 23 games while also adding a further 6 assists this season. The Brazilian blood runs deep in his veins judging by the technical abilities he possesses.
Standing at just 5 feet 8 inches, the 20-year-old has a knack for breezing past defenders from the wide areas and breaking down the opposition half whenever he gets the ball. He has so far appeared 2 times in the Brazilian U23 side and has a long way to go before he can partner up with Neymar in the senior national team.
Arsenal showed a glimpse of what the side’s attack is capable of against Everton last night as they thrashed them 5 goals to nil at the Emirates last night. Both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan made their debut starts and combined to score 1 and assist 3. The final third moved seamlessly to help Aaron Ramsey to his first club hattrick.
These are promising signs for the Gunners faithful and even though one game is not a large enough sample, the match only showed us what a quality player like Malcom will add to an already star-stacked offensive lineup. Malcom is eager and well capable of replacing the void left by Alexis Sanchez on the left wing.
