Liverpool produced yet another thrilling encounter against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend as Jurgen Klopp’s men took the lead twice but failed to hold on to it, dropping a couple of points at Anfield. Mohamed Salah became the fastest Liverpool player to score 20 league goals as he came up with a brace, which seemed enough for the hosts to steal all three points.
But Harry Kane, who missed a penalty, minutes from full-time, got a second bite at a cherry, giving the visitors a late equalizer after substitute Victor Wanyama came up with a screamer to equalize for the first time. A couple of late penalties will be the talking points in this game and here are the player ratings for the Reds in this tie:
Loris Karius (6):
Made a couple of decent saves and stopped the penalty that he gave away but was not directly at fault for any of the goals.
Trent Alexandre-Arnold (7):
Never gave the likes of Son any space on the flank and was superb with his passing on a decent night for the youngster.
Dejan Lovren (6):
His mistake led to the penalty that Harry Kane eventually missed but did nothing else wrong all night, as he won the duel with the English striker.
Virgil van Dijk (7):
Was a solid presence at the back, constantly keeping the Liverpool backline organized. Gave away a soft penalty late in the game but was generally dominant for most of the game.
Andrew Robertson (6):
Was caught out of position on a couple of times but was quick to make interceptions and clearances that constantly frustrated Spurs.
Jordan Henderson (6):
Was useful with his passing and won the ball back a number of times but could not last the game to see his side home.
Emre Can (6):
A decent outing in the middle of the park where his industry constantly frustrated the Lily Whites.
James Milner (6):
Showed urgency in his passing and tackling as he allowed Liverpool to stay on top, cutting out the passing lanes for the visitors.
Mohamed Salah (8):
Took his chances on the night as he scored a couple of calm and superb goals. Was a constant outlet in the attack late in the game, as Liverpool were dominated by Pochettino’s men.
Roberto Firmino (7):
His usual self, hassling Spurs’ backline and midfield. Created a couple of half chances and came close to scoring with a header in the first half.
Sadio Mane (6):
Still not his usual best but was a constant threat for Spurs on the right flank as he made a nuisance of himself till he was subbed off.
Substitutes:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (5):
Did more defensively than he did in attack and failed to hold on to a lead till late in the game.
Georginio Wijnaldum (5):
Came on with 25 minutes to play and added nothing to Liverpool’s game except a number in the midfield.
