Manchester United will play hosts to Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford at the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek. The Red Devils made some grave defensive errors which cost them the three points in their last league outing. United manager Jose Mourinho will now look to inspire his players and bounce back against the Terriers on Saturday to try and consolidate their position in the Premier League table. Mourinho’s side are currently a massive 15 points behind their crosstown rivals Manchester City and are just 3 points above third-placed Liverpool. Hence, a victory tomorrow could go a long way in helping them get some distance between themselves and their Merseyside rivals in the race to finish as the runners-up in this campaign.
The recent history of the fixture doesn’t make a good reading for Huddersfield fans as the Yorkshire club has only tasted victory once in their previous 12 meetings with the Manchester club. However, that win came earlier on this season when the Terriers secured a brilliant 2-1 home win at the John Smith’s Stadium in October last year. Mourinho is expected to stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation and may make one change for this contest.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Huddersfield Town
Defence
David De Gea should start in goal for Manchester United and will be protected by a back four consisting of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in central defence while Antonio Valencia operates as the right-back and Luke Shaw might start on the left side of the backline.
Jose Mourinho’s defenders struggled versus Tottenham Hotspur at the Wembley Stadium in midweek when they conceded a goal within the first 30 seconds of the game. Jones was also the subject of a horror own-goal so the Red Devils will be hoping that they can bounce back against the Terriers and put on a much-improved showing in defence on Saturday.
Midfield
The duo of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba could be deployed at the centre of the park as the holding midfielders while the trio of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and new signing, Alexis Sanchez will play ahead of them. They will be tasked to create some chances and score the goals that will make the difference on the day. Juan Mata might have to settle for a place on the bench and could be called upon if needed later on in the match.
Attack
Romelu Lukaku will once again lead the lines for the Red Devils up top. The big Belgian striker has struggled to find the back of the net consistently in recent times but will hope to bag at least one goal versus the Terriers defence which shipped in three goals in midweek in their home match against Liverpool. Marcus Rashford might be used from the bench as another attacking option for Jose Mourinho to consider.
