Fulham have sealed a move for Newcastle United forward Aleksandar Mitrović on loan for the remainder of the season. According to BBC Sport, the Cottagers have acquired the duo of Cyrus Christie from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee and Mitrovic from the Magpies on a temporary basis until the end of the campaign. The 23-year-old Serbian centre-forward has found the back of the net twice in seven matches for the Tyneside club this season.
Following the deadline signings of the duo, Fulham Director of Football, Tony Khan was quoted to have said,
“Aleksandar is a talented player who has already amassed an impressive record at the highest levels of the game.
“Cyrus is a fantastic young player who brings both an international pedigree and a wealth of Championship experience with him.”
The West London club are currently sitting in 6th place in the Skybet Championship standings with a tally of 48 points after 29 league matches. The arrival of the dynamic duo will undoubtedly bolster Slaviša Jokanović’s options going into the second half of the season. They can definitely go a long way in helping the Cottagers to achieve their quest of securing a playoff spot at the end of the current campaign. It remains to be seen what lies ahead for Jokanovic’s men and whether they are successful in earning a promotion back to the Premier League.
Let’s take a look at the Cottagers’ strongest eleven with both new signings in their starting eleven.
4-3-3 Fulham Strongest XI With Mitrovic And Christie In The Squad
Defence
Marcus Bettinelli will start in goal for the Cottagers and should be protected by a backline of Tomas Kalas and Tim Ream in central defence while new signing Cyrus Christie starts as a right-back and Matt Targett operates on the left side of the back four. The Fulham defenders have shipped in 35 goals in 29 league matches in this Championship season but they will now look to perform better with both Targett and Christie joining their backline.
Midfield
The midfield trio of Oliver Norwood, Kevin McDonald, and Stefan Johansen should be deployed at the centre of the park with Jovanovic hoping that they can shield the back four while also creating lots of chances for their front three to thrive on.
Attack
The Fulham front three will consist of Lucas Piazon, Aleksander Mitrovic, Ryan Sessegnon. The physical presence of Mitrovic up top would give the Fulham players a target man to look for and with the sensational rise of Sessegnon this season, the Cottagers’ attack looks like it has the potential to grab the goals which can push them on to secure a playoff spot at the end of the current campaign.
