Chelsea produced a nightmare of a performance on a night when the Blues fans stepped into the stadium feeling happy with their team’s Deadline Day proceedings. The match was poised evenly in the first half but a burst of goals in the second half saw Bournemouth blank the dumbfounded Chelsea team 3-0 on the night
This is how they performed.
Thibaut Courtois: 5
Could do little about the three goals he conceded and will be disappointed with his defence on the night.
Davide Zappacosta: 5
Was never comfortable while defending and looked tired for the better of the match. Was taken off in the second half.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 5
The least poor of the three defenders on the night, he was unable to stop the pacey Bournemouth attack.
Andreas Christensen: 5
Taken off in the first half after he pulled his hamstring. Chelsea will be hoping his injury is not serious with so many important games coming up.
Gary Cahill: 2
At fault for the first goal. At fault for the second goal. At fault for the third goal. Summed up the Chelsea captain’s performance on the night. Showed clearly how poorly his game has dropped in the last couple of years. He looked ill at ease against the Cherries and was always backtracking every time Wilson started running at him.
Marcos Alonso: 5
The Spaniard looked tired and needs some time off to help recover for the upcoming games in February.
N’Golo Kante: 6.5
Chelsea’s only bright spot in the midfield. He ran selflessly throughout and helped his team build some attacks. Left with a lot to do due to the dumbfoundedness of Bakayoko.
Tiemoue Bakayoko: 2.5
Another stunning display of poor football from the Frenchman. Managed to lose an unlikely ball in the first half that led to the opening goal of the night. Looked out of place when Chelsea tried to build attacks and was an absolute waste of a player when asked to track back. What is even worse is that he is showing zero signs of redemption or intent to change his current display of miserable football
Ross Barkley: 6
Was good on the ball and effective with his dribbling. However, he still needs more time to shake off the rustiness in his game. Given Bakayoko’s less than encouraging displays, he should not be worried about a first-team place.
Pedro: 3.5
The Spaniard tried everything but produced nothing. He ran and ran but was directionless with his movement. He lost the ball with no pressure on him and Conte will be worried about the decline of the player.
Eden Hazard: 6.5
Another night of frustration for the smart Belgian. He needs teammates he can pass the ball to with the guarantee of receiving it back. However, the likes of Pedro, Cahill and Bakayoko continue to form a Chelsea team that is simply below the standards of football Hazard is used to delivering.
Substitutes
Antonio Rudiger: 5
Came on to replace Christensen and will not be happy with any of the goals conceded.
Cesc Fabregas: 4.5
The Spaniard came on a little too late and saw his team collapse even more with the likes of Bakayoko and Cahill producing nightmare football.
Callum Hudson-Odoi: 4.5
The youngster was thrown into a terrible situation and could not do much to help his team recover.
