David Moyes has done well to take West Ham United to the top half of the league table but they are closer to the drop zone than they are to the 6th place and have some work to do, to make their season a decent one. The Scotsman has been busy this transfer window, trying to add some quality to his first team but has only managed to land one star in Joao Mario. But their compounding injury issues will definitely see them look to sign players to improve other areas on the field.
This has seen them linked with several defenders on deadline day and one player they are inching closer to is 33-year old Ivory Coast international Souleymane Bamba.
Sol Bamba, as he is called, is a product of the PSG academy at the French capital and first moved to England with Leicester City back in 2011. He spent just one year and only returned with Leeds United, who made his loan deal permanent in 2015.
He was picked up by Cardiff City at the start of the previous season and has been their first choice CB, making 27 league starts this season. He has 44 appearances for his national side and is an experienced defender and is a short-term fix to the problems at London Stadium.
The 33-year old can also play as a CDM but is adept at playing as a part of a four-man backline. He is quick to make interceptions and reads play well in front of him. He loves to throw himself about, winning tackles in dangerous areas. His experience adds to his discipline and his ability to dominate his box on the field and in the air makes him a smart acquisition for David Moyes.
He can dribble out of danger but is not a great passer of the ball but sits well into the system under the former Manchester United manager.
The likes of Jose Fonte and James Collins have not been able to keep themselves fit and need long-term replacements. Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna need dependable backups, or partners in a 3-man backline and Banba solves this problem.
His time in England previously will see him take no time to adjust to the first team and if he can impress Moyes, he may turn into the first choice for the rest of the season.
West Ham needs a real overhaul at the back and the 33-year old Cardiff City star can give them a chance to get through the current season without any damage before they can dive into the summer transfer market at the end of the campaign.
