Swansea City are a rejuvenated side under newly appointed Carlos Carvalhal and the Welsh side are looking to build on their run of form by signing Leicester City midfielder, Andy King. With just 5 starts in the league this season, his future with the Foxes is uncertain and a Swansea can provide him with the necessary escape.
Andy King developed his game in the Chelsea youth ranks but was released when he was 15-years-old. It was Leicester who provided him with the opportunity to make it in the English game and signed him up immediately at the time. A product of the club’s academy, King is one of the club’s oldest serving players currently and is a huge name among the fans at King Power Stadium.
He has been named the club’s player of the year on two occasions and has been a key figure over the years to win the EFL League One, EFL Championship and the Premier League titles. Maybe an unsung hero but still a hero, King’s career with the Foxes have hit an all-time low and now that Adrien Silva has arrived, it is unlikely to improve.
The Barnstaple-born midfielder is a versatile presence in the middle of the pitch and can cover both ends of the pitch. He can fill out the number 10 role behind the lone striker as well as fulfil his defensive duties from deeper positions. King has been capped at international level for the Wales national team 44 times making him the player with the most international experience in the Leicester City ranks.
An experienced midfielder with title-winning experience will make a huge impact for a side which is trying to escape relegation. Nobody in their right mind would have predicted the Swans to come away with maximum points in their last two league fixtures against Liverpool and Arsenal and yet they did. The Gunners were caught completely off the mark last night as they saw Carvalhal’s men find the back of the net on 3 occasions and come away with the crucial win.
The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has integrated a winning pedigree into the side who have not yet given up on their hopes of remaining in the Premier League.
Andy King’s arrival will add a creative dynamic into the Swansea team – something they are in dire need of after the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton. If City can pull off the transfer deal in the dying minutes of the transfer window, they will be favoured to stay out of the bottom three now that the second half of the season is already upon us.
