Sunderland are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday forward Atdhe Nuhiu. The tall and burly forward standing at 196 cm has a towering presence in the box. The Black Cats are believed to be keen on bringing in the Kosovo international to add some much-needed firepower to their team.
The 28-year-old is not the club’s first choice striker at Sheffield and has only clocked 279 minutes of league action this season. He has very much been down the pecking order and most of his appearances have come in the form of a substitute.
He has, however, been useful when called upon and used his physical ability well to help the Owls in the final third. Although his goal count has not been the best in the league, he has been extremely efficient in the FA Cup scoring 3 goals in 3 matches for the Sheffield based side.
The Owls manager Jos Luhukay has claimed that he is unaware of any bid for Nuhiu but expressed his desire that the Kosovo international remains with the club.
But he told The Star: “I’m very happy with Atdhe and we saw last Friday against Reading when he scored two goals what he can do for us. I hope that Saturday and in the next games he can play good and hopefully score for us.”
The player made over 170 appearances for Sheffield and has now been given hope that he could well be on his way to becoming a first team player.
I spoke to Atdhe and explained to him the situation,” he said. “Atdhe is also a player who has not played before many games over 90 minutes. We didn’t want to take a risk with him with three games in the week. But he’s an option for the first eleven on Saturday.”
Sunderland’s demotion to the Championships has done little to change the club’s fortune this time around. Things have not gone well for the Black Cats well this season with the club battling another relegation threat. Sunderland have just won five of their 29 league matches this season and with only 25 points on the board, they stand in the relegation zone. The club is 23rd in the Championship and looks set to drop further.
The Black Cats are desperately scouting for a hitman in the market after scoring 31 goals in 29 matches and Nuhiu could well prove to be the signing to save Chris Coleman’s men from relegation.
