Crystal Palace are lining up a move for Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron with the transfer deadline fast approaching. According to recent reports in the English media, the Eagles are closing in on the United States international before the transfer window comes to a close when the clock strikes midnight tonight. It is believed that Roy Hodgson’s side are seriously considering a move for the Potters centre-back in what could turn out to be an audacious deadline day attempt and are willing to provide Cameron with an escape route to ply his trade at Selhurst Park.
Some sources have recently claimed that Palace were among three Premier League clubs interested in sealing a move for the USA international, along with West Ham United and Newcastle United. The 32-year-old has featured in 16 matches for the Potters in all competitions but is yet to score so far. He is highly versatile and can play in a number of positions across the backline.
He can play as a holding midfielder as well which makes him an ideal asset for Palace if they manage to secure his services in the near future.
Crystal Palace are currently occupying 12th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 26 points after 25 league matches in this campaign. They have been in terrific form in the league since Roy Hodgson’s appointment as the club’s new boss in September last year. The Eagles have made a remarkable turnaround in recent weeks but are still not completely out of relegation trouble with just three points separating them from the drop zone. The Selhurst-based outfit could do with a few new additions before the transfer deadline and a successful move for Cameron might go a long way in helping them avoid the agony of relegation to the English Championship at the end of this season.
The potential recruitment of Cameron will definitely boost their defensive options going into the second half of their campaign with games coming thick and fast in the Premier League. The United States defender stands at 6ft 2inch and is a big physical presence at both the defensive end and the opposition box. His tireless work ethic and versatility make him a perfect fit for the Eagles if they can win the race to sign him before the end of this window.
It remains to be seen if they are successful in pursuit of the Stoke City centre-back’s signature today.
