Burnley are looking to secure the services of Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall. According to recent reports in the English media, the Clarets have tabled an official bid for the English defender in the hope of sealing a move for him before the end of this ongoing transfer window. Burnley manager Sean Dyche has made a surprise bid reportedly worth up to £10million for the Nottingham Forest centre-back. Dyche has been chasing the England Under-20 skipper’s signature for the last few weeks and has lodged an official move in order to force a response from his former club.
The Clarets want to bring Worrall to Lancashire to try and bolster their defensive options at Turf Moor. Some sources are now claiming that Sean Dyche’s side has failed with their latest bids as Nottingham Forest has rejected two offers from the Premier League club for their prized asset but another offer could be on its way with the Clarets desperate to add him to their ranks.
Worral has come through the youth ranks at Forest after joining the Tricky Trees back in 2011. The 6ft 4in centre-back has recently become an integral member at the City Ground and has been a rock at the back under Aitor Karanka. He has featured in 30 matches for Karanka’s side this season and has scored one goal in all competitions.
Burnley are currently sitting in 8th place in the Premier League table, with only goal difference separating them from Leicester City, who occupies the 7th spot. The Lancashire outfit are eight points behind Arsenal, who are in 6th place. With the Gunners not playing at their best right now, Sean Dyche’s side are in with an outside chance of breaking into the top 6, especially if they can seal a move for Worral going into the second half of the campaign.
The Forest defender will definitely boost the Clarets defence with the club being over-reliant on the defensive duo of James Tarkowski and Ben Mee so far in this campaign.
Worral has represented England playing for his nation’s Under 20 and Under 21 sides and will come in with a wealth of experience in the second tier of English football. At 21, he still has a long time to develop into a top Premier League defender with Burnley hoping that he can be a star for them for years to come. It remains to be seen whether the Clarets are successful with their third bid to convince Nottingham Forest to sell their prized asset before the end of this month.
