Former Italian boss, Antonio Conte has bought with him a breath of fresh air to the Premier League when he decided to move to the Stamford Bridge outfit Chelsea earlier this summer. The manager has brought in a number of star players to the squad from the last season and has remained unbeaten in all competitions at the start of the domestic season. The likes of Diego Costa, Willian, Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and John Terry have all made brilliant starts to their campaign and will make the core of the side for the entire season. However, one star player who is now quickly falling out of favour at the club is Spanish international Cesc Fabregas.
The former Barcelona player, who has won almost everything possible in European football, moved back to London a couple of years ago and was instrumental in Jose Mourinho lifting the Premier League title back in 2015. However, he was one of the worst players for the side in the last campaign which gave them a 10th placed finish come the end of the season. Though he looked like picking up some form late last season, he has not been able to impress Antonio Conte enough and has been extensively linked with a move away from the club even in the summer.
Even though he has stayed back at the club, he is yet to start a game for the side in the Premier League and has played just the 26 minutes so far this season. He started the League Cup game against Bristol Rovers, but he is slowly moving away from Conte’s plans this season.
The Italian manager has revealed recently that Fabregas is still in his plans, but with no European football this season, it is hard to see the Spaniard playing an important role in the side. But should he be sold? What will Chelsea be letting go if they decide to get rid of the 29-year old?
The first thing that springs to mind is his experience. Having played for clubs like Barcelona and Arsenal, Fabregas has always been a star performer with his technique and ability with the ball. His vision and execution of passes is just exemplary and there are very few players who can match what he does for his side on the field. He sits back, dictates the play for his side and finds his man with ease even over long distances making him a perfect player for the Premier League. His only criticism even under Mourinho was the lack of his defensive attributes that at times leave the team exposed, but his effect on the offensive side of the game is too huge to ignore.
He may have an off day once in a while but on his day, he can cut through opponents and win the game for his side almost single-handedly. Most clubs in Europe would love to have him on their side and at just 29, he has many years still to win himself a few more accolades. He is one of the biggest stars in Europe and a huge asset for Conte’s side and letting him go can only be a disaster for the club. For starters, there are hardly any players who can replace his quality. It will be close to impossible for Conte to replace the 29-year old in his squad and he is well advised to keep Fabregas at the club for a longer time.
