Sky Sports has reported that Fabinho Henrique Tavares or Fabinho is ready to part ways with AS Monaco. The talented midfielder hailing from Brazil has been a key part of the Monaco team. He has reportedly said that his days at the club are numbered and he is ready for a fresh challenge.
The Monaco team that won the Ligue 1 last year after beating Paris Saint Germain to the French title has seen a majority of their star players leave over the summer. The mass exodus has left the French outfit vulnerable and lacking in quality. It is going to be difficult for the defending champions to replace the likes of Mbappe and Bakayoko. The latest reports coming out of Monaco about Fabinho would then suggest that more players could be on their way out.
The 24-year-old has alerted the big clubs of his intention and they are now set to battle it out for the Brazilian. Here are three clubs who can consider bringing in the talented midfielder.
Manchester City
The Citizens have a host of attacking talent but lack of depth in the deeper midfield position. Yaya Toure is reaching the twilight of his career which leaves Fernandinho and injury-prone Ilkay Gundogan as the only players who can play in the holding midfield role. With Pep known to be a manager who likes to rotate his side for matches, he could do with a player of Fabinho’s calibre and versatility in the team.
Logically for the Brazilian as well, it would make sense to join the Citizens where he would certainly be guaranteed game time and could possibly take over the starting midfielder for Guardiola’s team.
Manchester United
A player with an engine to run for 90 minutes he would certainly shape the United midfield for years to come. Currently, the Red Devils have Matic, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and their French ace Paul Pogba in midfield.
However, if Fabinho were to come, he will fit into the team perfectly as an exciting player next to Matic and the duo together can provide the perfect base for Pogba up front to run free. While Matic likes to sit back and hold the game, Fabinho is all about playing from box-to-box and making things happen on the pitch, something that is bound to excite the crowd at Old Trafford.
Chelsea
Chelsea has guile and finesse in midfield in terms of Fabregas and powerhouses in Kante and Bakayoko. However, Fabinho would provide both sets of qualities and having him in the team would mean that Fabregas would be freed of his defensive duties completely and the Spaniard can then focus on feeding impeccable balls to his frontmen.
With Fabinho playing alongside Kante and with Antonio Conte looking to stick to his 3-back formation, the dual axis in the middle of the park for Chelsea will be of great envy to every other team in the Premier League.
