Manchester City appears to have completed the signing of United States midfielder Mix Diskerud. According to recent reports in the English press, the Citizens of Manchester have sealed a move for the 27-year-old midfielder after he signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the Premier League leaders. Diskerud has featured in 41 matches for New York City FC after joining the club in January 2015 with NYCFC being a sister club of Manchester City, as the City Football Group owns both football clubs.
The 27-year-old failed to establish himself in New York and subsequently made a switch to IFK Goteborg on a loan deal for the majority of last year. Some sources are recently claiming that the United States player has now left New York in search of a new challenge, and has penned a four-and-a-half year deal with Pep Guardiola’s team. The report broke out courtesy of Umbro, who revealed Diskerud’s switch to the Etihad Stadium on their official Instagram account.
The post stated, “Delighted to report the news that @MixDiskerud will further be cementing his relationship with Umbro in our hometown, as he proudly continues his footballing development with a 4,5y [sic] Manchester City FC contract.”
The Manchester outfit are currently leading the Premier League standings with a tally of 65 points in 24 league matches. They are in firm control to secure another league title at the top tier of English football with a mammoth 12 point lead over their local rivals Manchester United. Pep Guardiola’s men are still competing in four different competitions, having already secured qualification to the final of the League Cup while also getting their names into the fifth round draw of the FA Cup.
The Citizens of Manchester will clash heads with FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages as well so their quest of achieving an unprecedented quadruple is well and truly on the cards.
The Norway born midfielder has featured in 38 matches for the United States national team since making his international debut in 2010. He was an integral member of the USA side that lifted the 2013 Gold Cup. The 27-year-old also made the cut for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil but was unable to make a single appearance for his nation during that competition. The addition of Diskerud will undoubtedly bolster Pep Guardiola’s midfield options ahead of a busy second half of their campaign. Only time will tell if he can be a big hit at the Etihad Stadium in the coming years.
