Brentford boss, Dean Smith has stated that he is currently holding negotiations with a club over a transfer move for Lasse Vibe. Reports have pegged Leeds United to be one of the parties to land the 30-year-old.
Vibe has slotted in 7 goals in 19 games this season and has furthered 1 assist. He has been capped by the Denmark national team 11 times and is a key figure in the Bees club ranks. Vibe’s contract with Brentford is set to end after this season and Leeds can snap up the opportunity to sign him on a nominal fee or look to agree on personal terms beforehand which will allow him to move to Elland Road for free come June.
It is no secret that the Whites are struggling in their playoff chase having lost 3 of their last 4 league games. Thomas Christiansen’s men allowed Millwall to slot in 2 late goals and snatch away the win last weekend. The match ended 2-3 at Elland Road and the fans were left shell-shocked to see their team drop to the 10th spot of the EFL Championship.
What started out to be one of the best chances of pushing for a promotion has turned into a dark and disappointing campaign for Thomas Christiansen who is struggling with a lack of attacking threat from the side. With Samuel Saiz currently sidelined for behavioural conduct and Pierre-Michel Lasogga failing to chip in regularly, an addition to the final third is necessary to improve their chances of making it into the playoffs by the end of the season.
Caleb Ekuban went down to a long-term injury last month and Pawel Cibicki is not the ideal striker to lead the Peacocks’ attacking lineup. Cibicki is utilized as a second option and has not managed to score a single goal this season – just two assists.
Christiansen and the United faithful understand the importance of a proven goalscorer for the final stretch of the season. They are desperate for a quality signing and none of their trade offers have materialised. With just over a couple of days left in the January window can they figure out a deal with a deal who are equal on points in the league and are also contending for a playoff spot?
Brentford went down to Norwich City last night, 0-1 and might not be able to hold down the services of their veteran forward. However, they will also be reluctant to sell to their promotion rivals this season. Therefore an immediate transfer should be ruled out but a future one cannot.
