The situation between Emre Can and Liverpool continues to be an unstable with Jurgen Klopp refusing to rule out the German’s exit after this season. He was quoted, “He’ll stay beyond the winter. Emre is still a young lad but he has developed into a great player and is very important for us. Sometimes a player just wants to sit out his contract. That’s not cool for the club, but there are moments in which you have to accept it. And as long as the player behaves like Emre does, then I have absolutely nothing to complain about.”
Can has been with Liverpool ever since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2014 for a fee in the region of £9.75m. His contract is set to end after the current season and this is a cause for concern amongst the fans at Anfield. The 24-year-old developed his game with Frankfurt but graduated from the Academy of Bayern Munich. He was sent out on loan to Munich’s rival side, Bayer Leverkusen where he played one season and showcased his talents as a versatile midfielder.
Standing at 6 feet tall, Can is an athletic presence in the heart of the park and plays in the anchor role for Liverpool. The Frankfurt-born midfielder is a key figure under Klopp and has racked up 4 goals and 3 assists in 29 appearances this season. Judging by the minutes he has received, one would think that the German has no reason to be unhappy at the club.
Unfortunately, his future at Anfield looks pretty unstable at the moment and over what? Higher wage? The club’s feeble contention for the league title? Or is it just a basic falling out with the manager?
No one can tell for sure and Serie A outfit, Juventus have picked up on the scent. The Bianconeri are ready to provide the player with an escape route by agreeing to pre-contractual terms in the next few days. The Reds will not allow Can to leave before the duration of his contract and that might come as a bitter-sweet statement for the Anfield fans to swallow.
As far as Liverpool are concerned, they have already found Can’s replacement in Naby Keita, who is set to arrive from RB Leipzig in June. Transfer fee of £48m and personal terms has already been agreed upon.
Can will be a good fit at Juventus with the side well staged to win their 7th consecutive league title only to face heavy competition from Napoli.
