If football players were allotted fictional character roles for Halloween, the ideal outfit for David Luiz would be Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous character Dr Henry Jekyll. Dr Jekyll and his alternative personality Edward Hyde comprise of two different characters of the same person, something Luiz is guilty of with his football.
The unpredictable Brazilian has been blessed with an abundance of talent but harnessing it on a daily basis remains a matter of major dilemma for him. On his day, Luiz is not just a defender who can wall the goal with incessant ease but also storm into the opposition half and unleash a screamer into the back of the net. However, on his off days, he is best described by Gary Neville as a “PlayStation defender”.
Luiz’s first spell in England saw the Brazilian winning two European cups followed by his departure after losing his first-team spot under Jose Mourinho. He was brought back on the transfer deadline day last summer by Antonio Conte and many described the signing as a panic buy that was bound to fail.
However, Conte worked his magic on the ill-disciplined Brazilian and changed him into a star defender. He had his best season under the Italian and was a mainstay in the mean Chelsea defence that went on to win the title. The new season has not gone well for the Brazilian but and he has been replaced by young Andreas Christensen in the starting line-up. To make things worse for him, he has been involved in a rift with the Italian manager and knowing Conte’s history, Luiz is likely to serve a long-term on the sidelines for his impudence and get a run-out only in less significant matches.
With the player’s future thrown into great uncertainty, there are rumours linking him with a move to another club. The latest addition to the rumour mill is the news of Real Madrid chasing David Luiz.
Real Madrid is having a torrid season after winning back-to-back Champions League titles under Zinedine Zidane in the last two years. The defending La Liga champions are 19 points behind leaders Barcelona and will have to play an unlikely catch up. Their chances of a domestic trophy also went for a toss after they lost to a weaker side in Leganes.
It is being reported that club President Fiorentino is unhappy with the team’s progress and wants to bring in new signings to help improve the team. He is reportedly considering a bid for AC Milan’s Leonardo Bonucci but should the bid for the Italian fail, he wants to get David Luiz in.
The prospect of a move to Madrid has excited the player who wants to see it go through and he has contacted Perez to get it done. A move for Luiz will surely be an exciting one for the Real fans as he is one of the few defenders around with enough flair to fill in as a “Galactico”.
